A Bluesy Ditty

Yesterday, when he'd finished his nap, Moses wandered into the room where I was napping with Silas, and I got to snuggle with my sweet little boys.  I like having my two big boys, with all of their energy and Lego creations and their increasingly fun and insightful observations about the world... I like having my girl with all of her sweetness and funny drawings and the way she enters into whatever I'm doing alongside me... and I like having little boys with their snuggles and silliness and cuddles and squishy ways.

What bubbled out of my mouth as we were snuggling was this bluesy ditty I wrote for Doug nearly 3 years ago, so I thought I'd share it here on the blog:
Little man kickin me out from the inside,
Little man huggin me tight from the outside,
Could anything be more grand?
I love it how you took my hand.
Would you walk through the valley of the shadow of life with me?
Cause sometimes the way ain't clear and I just can't see.

But with you at my side,
And our gaggle o' kids,
I'm the happiest bride,
And we won't flip our lids...
Oh, could anything be more grand?
I've got a perfect fit in your hand.

Little miss stirrin the bowl on the counter,
Lego boats makin their wars on the hour,
Could anything be more grand?
I love it how you understand.
Will you walk through the days of pain and forgetting with me?
Cause I know the way'll get dark and we'll be weak.

But with you at my side,
And our gaggle o' kids,
I'm the happiest bride,
And we won't flip our lids...
Oh, could anything be more grand?
I love it when you hold my hand.
I'm the happiest girl in the band.

For Doug by Jess. January 23, 2010

Maybe sometime I'll take time to figure out the guitar chords, but for now, I decided to make a video of it acapella (complete with my gaggle o'kids meandering through the background)...

(If you can't view the video, here's the link:  http://youtu.be/E0jRGj4T56I)

I'm so very grateful for this busy, loud, full life God has given us.  It's not always easy; we've experienced our share of suffering, and I am confident that suffering will come our way again, as God promises.  But He will walk with us, and maybe even let us walk hand in hand through it.

I'm grateful.  I hope that wherever God has you right now, too, that you can find joy and contentment in it & see His grace at work in your life.

I can't see the video, but "flip my lid" is an expression I use around here and I chuckled when I read it in your song. :)

Wow! I didn't know you could sing too (in addition to everything else!). Love this song! A gaggle of kids is the perfect expression! Let me know when I can buy this on iTunes:)

Very Nice ditty! And thank you for singing for us - lovely.

As a side note, I noticed that you were reading "Naturally Healthy Pregnancy". Do you like it? Another blogger review said that it was the best pregnancy book she ever read, but I can't find it at the library. Should I buy it?

I'm pregant with #4 and I'm due a few weeks after you. = ) Thanks for your response!

Hi Jessica G- I borrowed the book from my midwife, so I'm just a bit into it. It's very keen on getting solid nutrition, etc. So far, that's all I've picked up. But I'm enjoying it. It's giving me more information and a different perspective than I've gotten from other books I've read while pregnant.

Thanks, ladies, for your sweet comments. I like singing to Doug. :)

And yeah, Maritza, we're still waiting on results too... perhaps we can find out sometime next week whether it's a little Ruby or Theo. :)

Blessings, all!
