Psalms, Hymns, & Spiritual Songs: Be Still, My Soul

Here's another favorite... and yes, some of the lyrics are slightly altered from the original translation:

Be still my soul; the Lord is on thy side.
Bear patiently the cross of grief and pain.
Trust in thy God to order and provide;
Through every change, He faithful will remain.
Be still my soul, thy Best & Heavenly Friend
Through trying times leads to a joyful end.

Be still my soul; thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as He has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake
What once was mystery shall be bright at last.
Be still my soul; the wind and waves still know
His voice Who ruled them while He dwelt below

Be still my soul, when dearest friends depart
And all is darkened by the rain of tears,
Then you will know the love of our Lord’s heart
He’ll come to soothe thy sorrow and thy fears.
Be still my soul: thy Jesus can repay
From His own fullness all He takes away.

Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening on
When we shall be forever with the Lord.
When disappointment, grief, and fears are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still my soul: when change and tears are past
One day, we’ll meet our Jesus, safe at last.

Amen and amen. I love this song.

This song was posted at the right time, as we grieve the homegoing of a friend in our church. In fact, my husband in singing in the memorial service tomorrow...so when I saw your post, I recommended this song to him.

Thank you for sharing!

I needed to read this post today. We are leaving the country to be m's and saying goodbye hurts more than I thought it would. Thanks for the encouragement.

YES, Kim! :) I'm so glad you're always right there with me for any random or obscure Alias memory. :) When I was looking up the lyrics for this several weeks ago to use in our worship service, I came across those lyrics, and she had totally New-Aged them... almost taking God out of it completely... but she really does sing it beautifully. Wish she would sing it about the Lord though.

Melissa, Hannah, Blue Castle, and Shay-- last night, I went to bed thinking, "no one posted... probably no one even read it... maybe I was wrong to share this particular song..." But then I wake up to these four comments and am so thankful that it spoke to each of you at the perfect time.

Our God knows. He is sovereign-- over the wind, waves, future, past, and even when we come upon a particular blog post we need to read (or when we need to write it)!
