Kindle for $49, Plus Infant/Toddler TOYS

If you're in the market for a Kindle, or have been wanting to check it out-- this is the lowest price I've ever seen: $49 for a Kindle. (We REALLY love Kindle-- not only because of living abroad & the ease of packing these "books" without worrying about weight, but also for portability of a wide variety of books for me, as a mom. I can just slip my Kindle into my purse and have a wide selection of fiction, inspirational non-fiction, my Bible, and more, all right there in that one lightweight device.)

My 11-year-old LOVES his Kindle as well, and reads on it non-stop. *** SIDENOTE: Are any of y'all G. A. Henty fans? You can get almost all of his books for FREE on Amazon Kindle. That right there makes it worth it.***

Hey Jess! I've been reading your blog for awhile now. Thank you for the encouragement! I was hoping you could give me some tips about the Kindle. My 11 year old is getting one for Christmas and I am trying to school myself on it before then. My specific questions are 1. Best source for free ebooks? 2. How to block or filter inappropriate content when searching for ebooks
Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much! -Amy

Hi Amy,
We don't let our son search freely. I search and let him look over my shoulder when/if appropriate. There is just TOO MUCH SMUT out there.

Here's where I look for free ebooks:
100 Best EBooks

Right under where it says "Best Sellers in Kindle eBooks", you'll see two headers-- "Top 100 Paid" and "Top 100 Free". Check out the free link. There are usually at least 5-10 good books there to check out… I check it about once every month or so- as I remember. and have gotten hundreds of free ebooks over the years. All the G.A. Henty books are free (great books for boys), and there are a TON of old classics.

Have fun!
~Jess

I didn't specify, but we have his kindle on parental controls all the time, and only use wi-fi for books to download, and then put it back to parental controls again.
