A Doll for my Daughter

Here's what I've been working on lately... and I just wanted to share my progress. My daughter's going to turn two in just a few short weeks, and I had been thinking for a while about what to give her. So, earlier this week, I got this hairbrained idea to make a doll for her (without a pattern!!-- who does crazy stuff like this?!), and have been working on it each night this week.

So far, it's coming along well, I think. Obviously, I've finished the shoes, legs, and bloomers (I put the CD next to it so you'd have a reference for how big it is). I'm planning on working generally from the bottom up, thinking that by the time I get up to the face and hair, I'll have figured out all the secrets to making a doll. Hope so! :) Next up is the skirt, which is kind of intimidating... I want it to kind of ruffle and maybe have a small embroidered flower design on it.

Anyway, I'll share pictures of the doll once I've finished. I'll be so excited to see Maranatha's reaction!

When you're done, you'll have to share your "pattern" with all of us!

Happy Mother's Day!

How cute!! Be sure to write down your pattern :) I made a tank top for my daughter (without a pattern)
HERE but forgot to write down what I was knitting as I was going along - whoops!

I've been wanting to learn to crochet... but now I really want to!

Homemade gifts are truly a lost art to this Target wedding and baby registry culture. They mean so much and I am glad someone is making one!

Hi! I am a wanna-be knitter and I am enormously proud of myself for knitting my daughter a teddy bear for Christmas. My bigger kids offered me suggestions you might like, too. We stuffed parts of it with (clean) candy wrappers so it makes cool noises and we wrote "I love Amy" on a heart that went in the bear's chest. So it really has a heart that loves Amy. :) Proud of you for your doll!! Jatina

How cute! I've not attempted a crocheted doll before, but I did hand sew one a while back - without a pattern. It turned out just fine too. Yours looks great so far - I cannot wait to see the finished product!

I've done crazy things like that. But I generally do it with fabric. :)

Consider yourself tagged too.

This looks like it is going to be such a cute doll when it is completed. How is it coming?

My nephew has asked me to crochet him a dinosaur. It has been challenging to say the least, but I know that he will love it and that's worth all of the frustration.

By the way, I tagged you on my blog, http://mrscjallen.wordpress.com/2008/05/16/all-about-me/. Feel free to check it out if you so please.

wow cool I didn't know that you can make a doll like that. Are you crotching or knitting?

Yoshi,
I'm crocheting it. And it's just a trial run; we'll see how it goes, LOL! It could turn out awful, but if it turns out good, well, then I may have a new baby gift to give to friends having little girls. :)
